An elevator for everyone
Location: Salou, Tarragona · 2018 – 2019
The Salduba building follows the typical typology of second-residence apartment blocks on the beachfront from the late 1960s.
With three apartments per floor, they are arranged along an exterior corridor, with access to each unit located halfway up the staircase.
The residents’ association requested the installation of an elevator and that all routes be made fully accessible for every apartment.
The original staircase layout did not allow for such accessibility, so it was reconfigured along with part of the existing corridors.
Due to the limited outdoor space on the plot, the elevator was attached to the north façade, which is also the main entrance used by most residents.
Next to the elevator, new corridors and a single-flight staircase were added, positioned at a distance that preserves the privacy of the neighbors.
The ground floor was also adapted with a ramp system to make it fully accessible.
Taking advantage of the ongoing construction work, all installations were updated and centralized.
